A  Young  Oak  Park Mother Is  Robbed  In Front  Of  Her  Home With  The Threat  Of  Being Shot,Her 7 Month Old Daughter Was Still In The Van.
by Ed Vincent

An Oak  Park woman who had just arrived home from
a short trip to the grocery store had just pulled her minivan
in front of her home,  her minivan was facing south as she
stepped out of the driver's door, with purse in hand.

A car approached her coming down the street from the
south.  There was one person in the car as it approached.
The Oak Park woman thought, as the car slowed down
approaching her that perhaps the driver wanted directions
to some address.  Instead the driver demanded her purse
with the threat of violence if she refused.   The driver intimated that she had a gun and would shoot the woman
if she did not hand over her purse.   This transaction of
demands took place quickly and the woman turned over
her purse.  The robber then told the victim that she should not look at her or her car or she would "blow her f**king
head off."

This took place Wednesday, April 9th, at around 2:30 pm
near the intersection of Jackson and Wenonah (
800 block of Wenonah).  Many of the neighbors knew nothing of this and
the victim's other children have also not been told.  This is
a very unusual occurrance for Oak  Park and it is not known
if the woman had been followed from the grocery store or not.  The woman did not notice anyone following her and the woman approached from the opposite direction, not from behind her.

The robber is described as a dark skinned,  thin
African-American female with possible small braids,
between the ages of 30 and 40 years old.  She was driving
a poorly maintained black Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
late model with an Illinois plate (
partial) of  917-???.
The car also was in need of a muffler and had a loud
noise as it drove off.  If you saw a car like this in the
area (
see photos below) or have other information that
might help the police catch this dangerous person,
please call Detective Commander Clemet Harbour
at 1-708-358-5568.

The woman's credit card was used right after the
robbery to pay for $50.00 in gasoline and several
thousands of dollars in reported online purchases.

The victim did not fight the robber and took the wise
move of full cooperation in giving her purse, with no
shots fired.
