HAYDN
Symphony No. 92 in G Major (Oxford)
TIPPETT
The Rose Lake
BEETHOVEN Symphony
No. 8 in F Major, Op. 93
The CSO caps its downtown season
with concerts featuring works by Haydn, Beethoven, and Tippett. Haydn’s
Oxford Symphony, despite the nickname, was not written for Oxford
or England. The work was played,
however, at a ceremony honoring Haydn with a doctorate of music degree
from the University. One of Michael Tippett’s last compositions, The Rose
Lake, was inspired by an African lake whose waters
appear to turn pink in a certain
light. Beethoven’s Eighth Symphony completes the program. Sir Andrew Davis,
Music Director of Chicago’s Lyric Opera, conducts these programs.
These concerts are generously
sponsored by The Port, Washlow and Errant Families.
Tickets $16-$109. Tickets can
be purchased by calling PhoneCharge at 312-294-3000 or 800-223-7114, or
by visiting the Symphony Center Box Office at 220 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago,
IL 60604. Box Office and PhoneCharge hours are Monday-Friday, 10
a.m. – 6 p.m. For group rates, please call 312-294-3040. Artists,
programs, and ticket prices are subject to change.
